THE HISTORY...

The Newlands Centre, formally the Newborough Centre, was originally conceived by the Kettering Borough Council in the late 1960's and early 1970's. The Newborough Centre was opened in 1977 with a total lettable area of 157,000 sq ft. Its main tenants, at this time, were Sainsburys, Boots, WH Smith and Mothercare.

During 1989/90 the development underwent a period of extensive refurbishment and extension which not only revitalised the original surfaces and fixtures, but brought about improvements in energy efficiency and lighting levels. Additional car parking spaces were made bringing the total to 480 spaces. Also, another two glass lifts were assembled bringing the total to five lifts servicing the car park. Additional shop units were also made available to meet the ever-changing needs of both customers and shopkeepers alike. It was also at this point that the name was changed to the Newlands Centre.

The building is 100% enclosed with heating, constructed of reinforced concrete, glazed roof and brick façade. Up lighting to canopy area and down lighting in mall areas and conglomerate marble floor tiles.

In 2001 part of the centre was redeveloped once again, to make way for the Liverpool based chain store T J Hughes. The store provides well over 35,000 sq ft of retail space and focuses on branded goods and fashion.

The water feature at Main Square which was added during the 1989/90 refurbishment was removed last year to make way for a promotional and exhibition area.

At this moment in time the centre is 99% let with just one unit available within the Centre.

The office block, Lahnstein House, situated at the Gold Street entrance is also fully let accommodating E-Surv Chartered Surveyors on all four floors.
